Abdullah was born and brought up in the London borough of Tower Hamlets in a family of eight children. She is of Bangladeshi descent; her parents moved to Britain from the Sylhet region of Bangladesh during the 1970s. Abdullah graduated from Queen Mary, University of London with a first class BSc in computer science. Abdullah has an IQ of 150. She was a member of Mensa International, a non-profit organization open to people who score at the 98th percentile of IQ, but left within a year of joining, stating: "Basically, you get a poorly designed magazine once a month and an invitation to go and mix with other Mensa members.
